Project Overview:
BGA was engaged by the Western Australian Department of Training and Workforce Development to assess and to provide advice on the skills required in Western Australia to deal with changes in industry practices as a consequence of climate change.
BGA conducted extensive consultations with a broad range of the Western Australian industry, community and vocational training constituents, and undertook an expansive literature and desktop review of global green job and green skill initiatives.
Project Outcomes:
The Report, ‘Skills for a Sustainable Future in Western Australia’, was prepared by BGA for the Western Australian Department of Training and Workforce Development. The report provides a comprehensive overview of what green skills will be required by the Western Australian industry in 2015 and beyond, and what action is required to ensure an appropriately skilled and adaptable workforce, to support the delivery of sustainable products and services into the future.
The Report included six key recommendations for consideration by the Western Australian Department of Training and Workforce Development:
- – Development of a comprehensive industry engagement strategy on green skills
- – Long term green skills research and planning
- – Provision of broad-based sustainability and green skills training to be formalised at the employment entry level
- – Requirement for specific sustainability and green skill content in particular industry sectors or occupations be available as elective content only
- – Sustainability skills framework to be considered
Provision of core technical skills training in a broad range of trade and sub-trade occupations to take precedent over other skill development needs.
