Project Overview:

BGA, in partnership with the National Electrical Communications Association, were engaged by the Australian Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, to support communication and promotion of the Australian Lighting Energy Efficiency initiatives, nationally and internationally.

This work was undertaken in close collaboration with the Federation of Asia and Pacific Electrical Contractors Association (FAPECA).

Elements delivered as part of the overall project included:

  • Translation into simplified Chinese the ‘Basics of Efficient Light: A Reference Manual for Training in Efficient Lighting Principles First Edition 2009’ (Manual)
  • Promotion of both an English and simplified Chinese version of the Manual
  • Attendance at the 2011 Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition at the China Import and Export Fair (Fair) complex
  • Development and distribution of a brochure (in English and simplified Chinese) to promote the Australian Lighting Energy initiatives, the Manual, Ecosmart Electricians Training program and associated training materials
  • Development and delivery of a seminar at the Fair on key initiatives – presented by Mr Steve Balzary (supported by FAPECA)
  • Hold discussions with FAPECA members attending the Fair on the best way to use the communication material, such as the brochure, and other initiatives in targeting FAPECA member countries, and explore issues of mutual concern
  • Development and delivery of a seminar to industry colleagues at the Messe Frankfurt facility on industry energy efficient issues and initiatives
  • Preparation of a detailed brochure (translated into simplified Chinese, Thai, Korean, Pilipino, Indonesian) on the Australian energy efficiency initiatives with a focus on the lighting area, and distribute to relevant FAPECA members
  • Attendance and representation at the 2011 FAPECA Convention held in Korea (hosted by the Korean Electrical Contractors Association.

Project Outcomes:

In addition to the delivery of the project activity, as noted above, BGA provided the Australian perspective at each of the forums, with a focus on green initiatives, including the Australian Government’s position.

This work has also resulted in a closer collaborative relationship between the Australian industry and government, with the Asian industry represented by FAPECA.
